Over 150,000 counterfeit hand tools and power tools were confiscated from two warehouses in Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah in March 2012. The raid was one of the biggest ever done by Stanley Black & Decker in the UAE.
The cache came to light when the law-enforcers swooped down on the warehouses located inside the two Emirates’ free zones as well as on a small tools shop in Ajman.
This raid is believed to have uncovered one of the biggest importers of counterfeit tools in the Middle East infringing Stanley, Black & Decker and DEWALT trademarks amongst others. There were hammers, tape measures, wrenches, knives, chalk lines, discs, etc. There were more than a thousand Black & Decker Drills.
Counterfeits of brands from Stanley Black & Decker, namely Stanley, Black & Decker and DEWALT, were the most prominent ones discovered in the raid. The items were moved from the target premises into Police Custody until further orders from the Courts. Based on the outcome of the court proceedings, the fake goods would then normally be taken to a landfill / disposal area and destroyed thereafter. Charges of Intellectual Property Rights Violation have been framed against the traders, pending the adjudication of the matter in the Courts.
