The Counterfeit Report Receives International Media Award

Award recognizes outstanding achievement in combating counterfeiting and piracy.

June 6, 2018, Los Angeles, CA – The Counterfeit Report, which is the first and only website to promote counterfeit awareness and provide consumers a free and informative visual guide to detecting counterfeit products has been awarded the prestigious Global Anti-Counterfeiting Award in the Media category at a conference in Paris today. 

The award is co-sponsored by Managing Intellectual Property and the Global Anti-Counterfeiting Group ("GACG"), an international network of national and regional IP protection and enforcement organizations covering over 40 countries.

The Global Anti-Counterfeiting Awards are presented for outstanding achievement by organizations, companies or individuals involved in combating counterfeiting and piracy, either to protect their own brands or products, or in the development of an environment which encourages the combating of counterfeits and pirated products. The Awards are normally given in seven main categories: National Public Body, International Public Organizations, Company, Association, Technology or Professional Services User, Media and Individual Achievement.

The Counterfeit Report was selected as the media award winner for outstanding achievement for its ongoing efforts to alert the public of the harm, dangers, and pervasiveness of counterfeit goods. The Counterfeit Report spotlights the various ways counterfeiters sell their products to the public, with an emphasis on identifying the means of distribution and the fake products sold to consumers. These counterfeit goods not only harm consumers, but also businesses and the economy.

Furthermore, The Counterfeit Report works with individual companies who have had their products counterfeited, utilizing market surveys and test purchases. When fake products are identified, infringement notices are sent to the offending e-commerce websites for listing removal and the products are featured in The Counterfeit Report website to warn consumers.

The multi-year effort of The Counterfeit Report has resulted in over 26 million counterfeit products being removed from e-commerce websites including Amazon, eBay, Walmart, and AliExpress.
