Recent reports have suggested that some counterfeit and third party USB adapters may not be designed properly and could result in safety issues. While not all third party adapters have an issue, Apple announced a USB Power Adapter Take-back Program to enable customers to acquire properly designed adapters.
Customer safety is a top priority at Apple. That's why all Apple products -- including USB power adapters for iPhone, iPad, and iPod undergo rigorous testing for safety and reliability and are designed to meet government safety standards around the world.
Counterfeit USB Adapters have not been evaluated by UL to the appropriate Standards for Safety and it is unknown if these Adapters comply with the safety requirements for the United States or Canada. UL is notifying consumers and retailers that the USB Power Adapters Model A1265 may bear a counterfeit UL Mark for United States and Canada.
Note that the counterfeit Model A1265 shown with UL Marks are similar to the Apple Model A1265 that is authorized to bear the UL Mark. Some counterfeit Model A1265 shown for use in Europe have "Apple" spelled "Applg" and the counterfeit Model A1265 for use in the US and Canada has "Designed" spelled "Designd."
Be very wary of unauthorized sellers and e-commerce websites including eBay and Amazon. Counterfeit products are often listed on eBay and Amazon and sold to unsuspecting buyers as "genuine" or "100% authentic" items at prices close to retail.
