Counterfeit accessories, such as battery packs, battery chargers and AC adapters, intended for use with Canon camera or video camcorder products, are not equipped with protective devices that meet Canon's designated quality standards.
As a result, when they are used with these products, or charged, they can cause abnormal heat generation, leakage, ignition, rupture, and other malfunctions in the products they are used with. In the worst case, not only could these counterfeit accessories damage the cameras and video camcorders in which they are used, but they could also cause fire, burns, blindness and other serious accidents and injuries. These types of incidents have been reported to, and investigated by Canon and it has been determined that counterfeit accessories were often the direct cause of the malfunction that resulted in the damage and/or injury.
Counterfeit accessories have not been designed, produced, nor licensed by Canon, but fraudulently display the Canon logo and other trademarks. It has been reported that these accessories are frequently sold on various Internet auction sites.
