Beware of counterfeits when considering the purchase of second-hand cables. Cardas has come across a number of counterfeit Cardas cables. Some closely match the appearance of genuine cables, others are so poorly done that their print contains typos.
Some things to look for, and consider, with second-hand cables:
Most counterfeits are sold on auction websites. Cardas suggests Audiogon as a reputable online auction site. Cardas has seen very few counterfeits on Audiogon, and when they have seen fakes, Audiogon has been quick to remove the listing. Other, larger online auction sites make it very difficult to remove listings for counterfeit products.
Counterfeits of Cardas cables are usually made to resemble older product lines that Cardas no longer produces. Be very careful when looking at listings for used Cardas Hexlink speaker and interconnect cables, and Cross interconnects with a dark green or turquoise color. Not all of these cables are fake, but many of the fake cables look like these.
Cardas has not provided any information or photos on how to identify authentic and counterfeit Cardas products.
